Cell phone users can get on no-call list

Cell phone users have until the end of August to put their cell phone numbers on the state's no-call list that's updated every three months, with the new list coming out in October.

The Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection said more than 92,000 cell phone numbers, and 1.1 million phone numbers total, are on the no-call list.

The list prevents most telemarketing calls from being made.

Cell phones were first included in the no-call system June 6.

Cell phone users missing the Aug. 31 deadline for the October list will next get on the quarterly list in January.

Phone numbers remain on the no-call list for two years, at which time users can renew a number on the list for another two years.

To sign up for the no-call list, go to the web site at NoCall.Wisconsin.gov or call 1-866-966-2255 toll-free in Wisconsin.
