Not surprisingly in tough economic times, debt collection was the top category of complaint by U.S. consumers in 2007, according to the National Association of Attorneys General.
Debt collection was second in 2006, NAAG said in a news release.
Auto sales also moved up a spot to No. 2 on the 2007 list, while the top 2006 complaint, home repair and construction, dropped to third.
The rest of the top 10 were telecommunications, slamming and cramming; general automotive; telemarketing and Do-Not-Call complaints; financial and investment-related; retail sales; Internet goods and services; and contests, sweepstakes and prize promotion.
The results are based on an informal nationwide survey conducted by NAAG.
