Another Janesville company linked to the soon-to-be-closed General Motors plant is shutting down.
Allied Automotive Group, the motor carrier hauling the SUVs made at the GM plant, will terminate its Janesville operation Dec. 23, putting all 117 employees out of work.
Allied Automotive Group, a subsidiary of Allied Systems Holdings, is the largest motor carrier in North America transporting cars and light trucks, moving about nine million cars and trucks a year on its 4,000 vehicle haulers.
The closing was announced Monday by the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development.
The company had notified the city of Janesville of its intention to close on Oct. 14.
The closing coincides with the shuttering of the GM plant on Dec. 23 and is one of a host of GM suppliers of parts and services to end operations in Janesville.
Other Janesville companies either shutting down or cutting back, and numbers of workers affected, include Lear Corp. with 371 employees, LSI with 159 employees, and Flint Special Services with 28 employees.
GM is closing the Janesville facility, oldest plant in the company, on Dec. 23, putting about 1,250 people out of work. The plant produces Chevy Suburban and Tahoe and GMC Yukon SUVs.
