State gas price keeps tumbling

The price of gasoline in Wisconsin is now a third less than what it was just a month ago.

The average price of regular unleaded in the state Thursday is $2.319 a gallon, according to the AAA daily fuel gauge report, compared to an average of $3.48 a gallon a month ago and $1.80 a gallon lower than the record price in July.

Leading the low-price charge in Wisconsin is Green Bay, where drivers are paying an average of $2.269 a gallon for regular unleaded, followed by Milwaukee at $2.276, Janesville at $2.295, Madison at $2.343, La Crosse at $2.359 and Eau Claire at $2.424.

Madison prices range from lows of $2.23 to $2.29 a gallon to highs of $2.39 to $2.76 a gallon, according to madisongasprices.com.

The national average for regular unleaded is now at $2.34 a gallon, down 2.5 cents from Wednesday.

Almost a dozen metro areas in America now have regular unleaded gasoline selling for less than $2 a gallon, with Kansas City, Mo., the lowest at $1.901.

Eighteen states have average prices below $2.25 a gallon for regular unleaded, with six of those states selling the fuel on average in the $2- to $2.10-a-gallon range.
