Deer hunters might want to put on an extra layer of thermal underwear before waiting at dawn for the start of the gun deer hunting season Saturday morning as frigid air from Canada puts Wisconsin into a deep freeze.
After a high of 27 under sunny skies Friday, the thermometer could drop to the low teens overnight, according to Weather Central meteorologist Brian Olson.
Temperatures will warm to the mid to upper 30s on Saturday as winds switch around to the south, with the warming trend continuing on Sunday with a high expected to be in the low to mid 40s.
A little colder weather will return on Monday with a slight chance of flurries or snow showers and an expected high in the mid to upper 30s.
Tuesday and Wednesday look pretty good, with highs in the upper 30s to low 40s under sunny skies.
Thanksgiving holiday travelers should have no problems with weather on Thursday, with mostly sunny skies and a high in the low 40s.
Thursday's high temperature in Madison was 32, nine degrees below normal and 33 degrees below the record of 65 for Nov. 20 set in 2003. The low of 17 right before midnight was 12 degrees above the record of five degrees set in 1914.
