Anthony T. Bradley, 17, currently on probation for driving a stolen car, was arrested Thursday by Madison police after racing a car he was driving around Madison East High School at speeds estimated to be up to 70 miles per hour.
Bradley was driving a Chevrolet Caprice in what police described as a fast and reckless manner and running stop signs on streets around East when he was spotted by a Madison Police officer Thursday at about 12:30 p.m., police spokesman Joel DeSpain said.
The officer started following the vehicle. At one point the officer saw it going in the wrong lane of traffic on busy Johnson Street as it went around several cars that had stopped for a Madison Metro bus.
"The speeding Caprice eventually turned from North 7th Street on East Dayton Street and struck a parked car," DeSpain said. Both Bradley, who had been driving, and his passenger, Cameron Monette, also 17, were tracked down by officers and both were arrested.
Bradley was tentatively charged with eluding, operating after revocation, reckless driving, failure to display registration on the car, failure to leave his name at the scene of an accident and obstructing a police officer. He has a previous conviction as an adult for operating after revocation and the conviction for operating a stolen car, for which he was put on probation for 18 months on March 13.
Bradley is likely to face formal charges next week in adult criminal court.
Monette, who has no permanent address, was tentatively arrested on a charge of resisting an officer. Internet court records show he has no previous adult charges.
