Snowfall causes flight cancellations

The Capital Times  —  11/30/2008 6:33 pm

The first major snowfall of the year in the northern counties of Illinois have led to many flight cancellations from Chicago's O'Hare airport, including flights to and from Madison.

All flights to Chicago from the Dane County Regional Airport scheduled to leave after 4 p.m. have been cancelled. Afternoon flights scheduled before then were delayed by up to four hours because of inclement weather.

A representative of American Airlines said the airline is working on getting flights for passengers for Monday or Tuesday.

According to the National Weather Service, the north side of Chicago could see between 3 and 5 inches of snow today, and the Federal Aviation Administration has also cited poor visibility with fog and high winds as reasons for the cancellations.

The Dane County Regional Airport Web site indicated that incoming flights on American Eagle from Chicago slated to arrive after 6 p.m. remained on schedule, although earlier flights were cancelled. All departures and arrivals between Madison and Chicago on United Express have been cancelled for the day.
