The first meeting of a new coalition to combat alcohol abuse in Dane County will be held Monday night after being postponed in early December because of bad weather.

The meeting is at 6 p.m. Monday in the Exhibition Hall of the Alliant Energy Center, with two other sessions scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. Tuesday and 6 p.m. Monday, Jan. 12.

The first three meetings will include presentations from experts on youth and drinking, the impact of alcohol advertising on youth and an overview on alcohol issues.

County Executive Kathleen Falk put the coalition together as part of her initiative in 2009 to combat alcohol abuse.

"It'll take many bright minds and good ideas for our communities to succeed in confronting the problems we face from alcohol overconsumption," Falk said. "I look forward to the coalition's many productive discussions and hard work in the coming year."

The coalition includes dozens of business, health, educational, law enforcement and other community leaders, with the public invited to take part in the discussions.
