Some of the best weather of the year is forecast to continue well into next week, with low humidity, plenty of sunshine, highs in the 80s and lows in the low 60s.
"It's just high pressure dominating a good chunk of the central portion of the country," Weather Central meteorologist James Conrad said Sunday morning.
The high Sunday should be 86 with partly to mostly sunny skies and light west winds of 5 to 10 mph. Monday should be 88 and Tuesday 83.
The high pressure will slowly move east, with the next good chance for rain late on Friday, Conrad said.
"We had all that flooding in June and nobody wanted to think about rain," he said. "Now we could definitely use the rain."
While the year-to-date rainfall total of 34.51 inches is 12.85 inches ahead of normal, the 1.04 inches in August is 1.23 inches below normal.
This August has been in stark contrast to last August, when the 15.18 inches of rain made it the wettest month in Madison history. That included record rainfall of 3.39 inches on Aug. 18, 2.13 inches on Aug. 19 and 3.2 inches on Aug. 22.
