Let the season's plant sales begin

The Friends of the UW-Madison Arboretum native plant sale is under the tent by the Arboretum Visitor Center, 1207 Seminole Hwy., on Saturday, May 10, from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. See a plant list or call 263-7888.

Olbrich Botanical Gardens begins their "Plant Sale with the Pros" with a member pre-sale Friday, May 9, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The public sale is May 9 from 4-7 p.m. and Saturday, May 10, from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. at 3330 Atwood Ave. For more: 246-4550 or see www.olbrich.org for a plant list.

Almost every local garden group also has a sale with most plants dug from members' gardens. Many are on hand to answer questions, too.

Westside Garden Club: Friday, May 9, from 8 a.m.-6 p.m. and Saturday, May 10, from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. at 3918 Nakoma Road.

Mound Vue Garden Club: Saturday, May 10, from 8:30-11 a.m. at the Mount Horeb Fire Station, 120 S. First St.

Earthspirit Farm: Normally open only by appointment, this sale takes place on Saturday, May 10, and Sunday, May 11, from 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. both days at 4385 Oak Hill Road, Oregon. Call 835-8907 or e-mail earthspirit@nationwide.net.

Rotary Gardens Spring Plant Sale: Find heirloom tomato plants and bagged mushroom compost on Saturday, May 17, from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. at the Gardens' Horticulture Center, Janesville.

Wisconsin Hardy Plant Society: Saturday, May 17, from 9 a.m.-noon at the Middleton-Cross Plains District Gym, 7106 South Ave., Middleton.

The Wisconsin-Illinois Chapter of North American Rock Garden Society: Saturday, May 17, from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. at Lois Kinlen's house, 26 Merlham Drive.
