Stephanie Bloomingdale: I just love your insurance

Dear Editor: You and I may not be the perfect match, we don't have too much in common and to be honest I'm not in love with you at all, but you know, you have really great health insurance, your comprehensive coverage is out of this world and wow you've got an amazing prescription drug plan. So what do you say, will you marry me?

Sound ridiculous? Well, for some Americans this is what's behind their marriage proposal.

A new poll commissioned by the Kaiser Family Foundation found 7 percent of Americans say they or someone in their household decided to marry so they could receive health care benefits.

We all know there is tremendous waste in the system: money diverted into the pockets of overpaid hospital CEOs and insurance companies' pots of profit. We all know it's possible to guarantee all Wisconsinites quality health care coverage at a price we can actually afford -- it just takes courage from our policy-makers. After all, don't we all deserve the same health care coverage as our elected representatives?

There is no better time to pop the question to our state legislators: When will you pass real health care reform?
