Each day during the Beijing Games, The Capital Times will update how Wisconsin's Olympians are doing and highlight some upcoming events.
Megan Kalmoe of St. Croix Falls finished fifth in rowing's double sculls medal race, over 10 seconds behind the gold medalists from New Zealand.
Kalmoe and Ellen Tomek finished the 2,000-meter course at Shunyi Olympic Rowing-Canoeing Park in 7:17.53 on Saturday. New Zealand took the gold in 7:07.32, while Germany won silver and Great Britain took the bronze.
"It's awesome just to be here," Kalmoe told the St. Paul Pioneer Press. "Ellen and I have been sculling for two years, so to even have made the 'A' final and be competitive with these guys, and have traded victories with some of these crews over the course of the season, is awesome. We're really proud of how we did."
Nashotah's Sally Barkow had her race for a medal in sailing's Yngling class postponed because of unpredictable winds. The final race is now scheduled for Sunday.
Barkow, Carrie Howe and Debbie Capozzi are fourth in the standings going into the medal race, where points are doubled.
Former Marquette star Dwyane Wade scored 16 points to help the U.S. men's basketball team thump Spain 119-82 and clinch first place in its group.
Michael Redd of the Milwaukee Bucks scored four points.
Andrew Bogut of the Milwaukee Bucks scored 22 points to help Australia to a 95-80 victory over Russia. The Australians improved to 2-2 in round-robin pool play with a game Monday against Group A leader Lithuania left on the schedule.
