BOYS BASKETBALL
Jeronne Maymon, Madison Memorial
The 6-foot-5 junior forward was named Associated Press state Player of the Year after averaging 21.2 points and 11.2 rebounds per game while leading the Spartans to their fifth straight appearance in the WIAA Division 1 state tournament. Maymon was sensational at the Kohl Center, averaging 30.0 points, 11.3 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 4.7 blocks and 3.3 steals for the Spartans, who reached the title game before losing to Wauwatosa East 58-56 in overtime.

GIRLS BASKETBALL
Leslie Schaefer, Verona
The 6-4 center guided Verona to its first WIAA state tournament berth by averaging 12.5 points and 6.0 rebounds per game. Against De Pere in a state quarterfinal, Schaefer scored 17 points, grabbed 12 rebounds and tied a Division 1 tournament record with seven blocked shots in a 53-50 victory for the Wildcats.
