MILWAUKEE -- Bucks point guard Mo Williams underwent surgery to repair ligament damage in his right thumb and will miss six weeks.
New general manager John Hammond said Thursday that Williams' surgery the day before was a success.
Williams had surgery by hand specialist Dr. Michelle Carlson in New York and will miss six weeks before beginning basketball-related activity with a splint.
Williams is expected to make a full recovery and be ready for training camp in October.
Williams started the first year of a six-year contract worth $51.5 million by averaging 17.2 points and a career-best 6.3 assists in 66 games.
