Local teen makes match play of U.S. Teen Masters bowling tourney

Nick Powers of Sun Prairie was one of 32 boys to qualify for match play in the U.S. Teen Masters bowling tournament at the South Point bowling center in Las Vegas.

Powers totaled 3,651 for 18 games of qualifying to finish 14th out of the 259 boys division competitors.

Kyle King of Glendale, Ariz., was first with 3,904. Matthew Mead of Oshkosh grabbed the 32nd and final spot for match play with 3,544.

Michael Meekma of Sun Prairie made the first cut after 12 games but didn't make match play, finishing 81st with a total of 3,334.

No local bowlers made the top 32 in the girls division.

Samantha Santoro of Reinholds, Pa., led the 116 girls division competitors with a 3,777 total.

The top 32 compete in bracketed, best-of-five matches on Thursday.
