Favre at Lambeau on Sept. 8? That's the ticket

Brett Favre is guaranteed a presence at Lambeau Field on the night the Packers are scheduled to retire his jersey, even if his messy spat with management  leaves him far from Green Bay on Sept. 8.

In an awkward twist, the face of the franchise for the last 16 years also has his face prominently displayed on the ticket for the season opener against Minnesota on Monday Night Football.

Tickets for the other home games pay homage to the loyalty of the franchise's fans, which has been tested and twisted as Favre and general manager Ted Thompson publicly air their grievances over the quarterback's intention to come out of retirement, with no happy ending in sight.

Many Packers season ticket-holders received their allotment on Wednesday, one day after Fox News aired the second part of an interview in which Favre reiterated his request for a release from Green Bay so that he has the option to play for another NFL team.

Favre announced his retirement on March 6, six weeks after leading Green Bay to its first NFC Championship game in a decade.

He was placed on the reserve-retired list by the team on April 25, eight days after the Packers announced they would retire his No. 4 jersey at the Monday Night Football game against the Vikings.

That ceremony now appears tenuous, even if Favre opted to remain retired, an option he hinted at during the interview with Fox's Greta Van Susteren.

On Wednesday, James "Bus" Cook -- Favre's agent -- told ESPN that his client would not seek reinstatement from the NFL if Thompson sticks to his guns and opts to not grant Favre his release.

That's because Green Bay could then fine Favre for each day he does not show up at training camp. While Favre told Van Susteren that he was "tempted" to go to Green Bay on the July 27 report date, he also said he doesn't want to come "just to stick it to" the Packers.
