Prep girls soccer: West's Kaehler named state coach of the year

The Capital Times  —  6/24/2008 2:54 pm

Outgoing Madison West girls soccer coach Donal Kaehler has been named the state coach of the year in the large-school division by the Wisconsin Soccer Coaches Association.

Kaehler, who won two WIAA state titles in 14 seasons coaching the Regents, coached West to a 9-7-2 record this season.

The state award makes him eligible for regional award consideration. Kevin Roethe of Milwaukee Divine Savior Holy Angels won the private-schools award, and New Holstein's Bill Schleh won the small-schools award.

Kaehler, who was profiled at length by Dennis Semrau in The Capital Times on the morning of his final game, coached the Regents to eight Big Eight Conference championships and seven state tournaments. West won back-to-back Division 1 titles in 1999 and 2000 after finishing second in 1995.

His career record is 235-70-40.
