LEXINGTON -- Brittney Dolgner had 10 kills as the 13th-ranked University of Wisconsin volleyball team opened its season with a sweep of Western Carolina in the first round of the Kentucky Classic.

Katherine Dykstra added nine kills for the Badgers, who staved off a late comeback attempt by the Catamounts for a 25-13, 25-9, 27-25 victory.

Wisconsin trailed 25-24 in the third set but Morgan Salow knotted the score with a kill. Dykstra and Dolgner followed with kills to complete the sweep.

"In the third, we made a few lineup changes, trying a few different things (and) it definitely affected the rhythm on the court. It was partly me testing the team," Badgers coach Pete Waite said.

"We let Western Carolina get ahead a little bit but we staged a good comeback. Our kids pulled together, held off set point and came back for the win."

Wisconsin's Audra Jeffers added eight kills and led all hitters at .444. Sophomore Kim Kuzma had 18 digs in her first career start at libero.

Western Carolina hit .000 for the match.

UW continues tournament play on Saturday, facing Pittsburgh at 11:30 a.m. and host Kentucky at 6 p.m.
