Golf: Kirk Penney to caddie for Andy North at Augusta

Andy North is the No. 1 fan of University of Wisconsin men's basketball, so it's fitting that he has former Badger carrying his bag at today's Par 3 Contest at The Masters.

Kirk Penney, who became friends with the ESPN commentator and two-time U.S. Open champ over the course of his career at Wisconsin, will caddie for North today in the event. Portions will be televised on ESPN live from 2 to 4 p.m.

Penney was a two-time first-team All-Big Ten honoree as he led the Badgers to Big Ten titles in 2002 and 2003. He has played basketball professionally both in the United States and overseas since leaving Wisconsin. This year he returned to his native New Zealand to play for the New Zealand Breakers on the NBL.

After leading the Breakers to the first playoff appearance in team history and becoming the first New Zealander to be named to the All-NBL first team, Penney returned to Madison in March. He was on hand as the Badgers clinched the Big Ten title against Penn State on March 5 then traveled to Indianapolis, Omaha and Detroit to watch the Badgers in the postseason.

North, who resides in Madison, has traveled extensively with the men's basketball team when his work schedule allows.
