The University of Wisconsin men's basketball team will face Iona in the opening round of the 2008 Paradise Jam tournament in the Virgin Islands, according to the tournament Web site.
The Badgers will tip off the eight-team tournament against Iona on Nov. 21 at 9:30 p.m. local time (7:30 p.m. Central), with the winner advancing to a Nov. 23 semifinal against the winner of the game between San Diego and Valparaiso. The loser will play a consolation game Nov. 22 against the loser of the San Diego-Valparaiso game.
The other half of the bracket in the tournament pits Southern Mississippi against Miami (Fla.) and La Salle against Connecticut.
Iona, a member of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference, went 12-20 last seson. The Gaels lost in the opening round of their league tournament.
The tournament features three teams that played in the NCAA tournament this past season -- Wisconsin, San Diego and Connecticut.
The Badgers will play at Marquette as part of their nonconference road campaign next season, and are slated to play at Virginia Tech on Dec. 1 as part of the Big Ten/ACC Challenge. Home nonconference opponents will include Texas as well as UW-Milwaukee and UW-Green Bay.
