Jolene Anderson was selected by the Connecticut Sun Wednesday afternoon with the 23rd overall pick in the 2008 WNBA Draft.
Anderson, who went in the second round and recently wrapped up her collegiate career with the University of Wisconsin women's basketball team, was the first Big Ten Conference player picked in the event that was held in Tampa, Fla.
The 5-foot-8 guard, named the co-Big Ten player of the year this past season, led the league in scoring for two straight seasons and averaged 18.8 points per game during 2007-08.
Although Janese Banks participated in the league's pre-draft camp last week, the ex-UW guard was not picked with one of the 43 selections in the Draft.
Anderson did not attend the Draft, instead opting to watch the televised event with her family at their home in Port Wing.
Meanwhile, the Sun finished with an 18-16 record and a third-place finish in 2007 in the WNBA's East Division. The team features former University of Minnesota standout and guard Lindsay Whalen.
Natalie Berglin, a former guard at UW-Green Bay, is on Connecticut's current roster and has participated in the Sun's training camp.
As anticipated, the Los Angeles Sparks tabbed Tennessee's Candace Parker as the No. 1 pick.
Ohio State standout Marscilla Packer was the only other Big Ten player to get drafted. The 5-9 guard went to the Phoenix Mercury with the 41st pick.
