We asked five burning questions heading into Saturday night's Big Ten Conference game between the University of Wisconsin football team and No. 6 Penn State at Camp Randall Stadium.

We got some answers during the Badgers' 48-7 loss to the Nittany Lions -- none of them good, as far as UW was concerned.

Could this be Allan Evridge's final start at UW?

Pregame outlook: UW coach Bret Bielema's comments regarding Evridge's struggles with accuracy got a lot of play this week in the media and on fan message boards. Bielema also made it clear that personnel changes may be in order if some players don't improve their performance.

So what does Evridge need to do to keep his job? Hold onto the ball, for starters. He's turned the ball over six times (three fumbles, three interceptions) in two games. The Badgers don't need Evridge to be great. Something like this stat line -- 16-of-25 for 180 yards with a touchdown -- would do the trick. And no turnovers, of course.

Answer: It wouldn't be shocking to see Dustin Sherer in the starting lineup next Saturday at Iowa. Evridge completed 2 of 10 passes for 50 yards and an interception. He did make some plays with his legs, including a 5-yard touchdown run, but he also had a costly fumble that led to a Penn State touchdown just before halftime.

Evridge was benched in the third quarter in favor of Sherer, who was 9 of 17 for 115 yards and an interception, and also fumbled, while playing with the game out of reach.

Can UW contain Penn State's Derrick Williams on kickoffs?

Pregame outlook: It's been more than five years since an opponent returned a kickoff for a touchdown against the Badgers, but it'll be interesting to see if Bielema, who's in charge of UW's special teams, has anything special planned to keep the ball out of Williams' hands. The senior has returned two kickoffs (out of 10) for touchdowns this season and is third nationally with an average of 33.4 yards per return. UW ranks 48th nationally in kickoff return yardage defense at 20.1 yards per return.

Answer: One way to avoid kicking off to Williams is to avoid kicking off at all. The Badgers' lack of scores meant they only had two kickoffs; one went for a touchback and the other was returned by Chaz Powell for 24 yards.

Williams did make his mark with a 63-yard punt return for a score in the second quarter.

Who will get more carries: P.J. Hill or John Clay?

Pregame outlook: Expect Clay's role to expand even more this week after he carried the ball 10 times for 69 yards last week. Hill had 16 carries for 63 yards. Don't be surprised if the distribution of carries is closer to 50/50 -- if not tilted in Clay's favor -- against the Nittany Lions. One stat to note: Hill has gone 40 carries without an explosive run, which is defined as 12 or more yards.

Answer: Hill finished with 15 yards for 58 yards, while Clay had 10 carries for 43 yards. The distribution of carries is skewed because UW was playing from behind almost the entire game.

Can UW regain its home-field advantage?

Pregame outlook: Remember when the Badgers seemed invincible at home? I already detailed in a blog post earlier this week how the Badgers' 16-game home winning streak wasn't all it was cracked up to be, because only one of those victories came against a ranked opponent. Still, losing home games on consecutive Saturdays -- both at night, no less -- would be a shocking development for this program. The last time the Badgers lost back-to-back home games was 2002.

The only burning question answered tonight by the Badgers was that they suck big time! They also have a burning sensation during urination.

Daniel says:
Remember that Tony Romo wasn't good enough in the mind of legend Barry to play QB at UW.

Those bowl games don't have much to do with the most talented teams. They are all about which team will help make the most money, ie, the most fans to raise the most money, duh.

Let's see here? Toledo beats Michigan at the Big House ...Wisconsin Lost to Michigan. BB sticks with a Senior QB that is not able to get Wisconsin in the end zone...Wisconsin will lose to Penn State by at least 17 points. BB will stick with his Senior QB ...We're on our way to Detroit!

I don't think this is a very good Badger team. Poor QB play, poor 3rd down conversion rate and no killer instinct to put teams away. You compound that with poor coaching decisions and it's a recipe for disaster. I've got them starting 0-6 in the conference. Hell, I think every team in the conference has a chance against the Badgers. Wisconsin just can't seem to recruit a decent QB to lead the team.

Wisconsin can beat PSU. Remember, we should have won at Michigan and in my eyes we outplayed OSU last week. PSU is better overall, but anything goes at Camp Randall.

GO BADGERS!

p.s Get the ball to John Clay more!!

Nate says:
Times have changed & PSU is a very very good football team! The Badgers are solid too & about a #25ish quality...nothing to sneeze at...but not great so as to = fan expectations. PSU shall dispose of us by about 14.
