Former University of Wisconsin hockey players Jinelle Zaugg, Kerry Weiland and Molly Engstrom are among 18 players who have been selected to participate in the U.S. Women's National Program's residency program.
They will train in Blaine, Minn., from September 2008 through April 2009 under Tom Osiecki, a Minnesota assistant coach and the father of UW men's assistant coach Mark Osiecki.
The players will have daily on-ice practices and strength and conditioning training. They will also play in an elite men's league on Wednesday evenings and play against Division I women's teams, the Minnesota Whitecaps professional team and against select Minnesota high school boys teams.
Zaugg, a forward, will join the group in December after finishing her studies at UW.
Weiland and Engstrom are defenders who have been playing in the professional ranks.
