The American Red Cross Disaster Relief Operation opened a shelter Tuesday in Beloit, due to massive flooding in Rock County.
The shelter -- located at Aldrich Middle
School, 1859 Northgate Drive -- is scheduled to open at 8 p.m. for
anyone in Beloit who has recently been displaced because of
continued flooding.
The Red Cross said it is also delivering bulk items and food via its Emergency Response Vehicles throughout the flooded areas of Newville, Janesville and Beloit.
The Emergency Response Vehicle carries hot meals and beverages for those affected by the flood, as well as cleanup and comfort kits; bug spray; "heater meals," which just need water added; water purification; and other items.
"It is important we bring the products and services to the people affected by this horrible disaster," said Jack Morgan, public affairs officer for the American Red Cross. "This latest series of flooding has been extremely traumatic for Rock County residents and having services available in affected neighborhoods makes the recover process less traumatic," he said.
