Victims in all 28 counties included in the federal disaster declaration for recent floods and storms are now eligible for federal emergency food assistance.
The six counties added to the disaster declaration June 24 were approved for food aid Thursday, so victims in Adams, Calumet, Green Lake, Jefferson, La Crosse and Walworth Counties can apply for food assistance from Friday to July 8.
The one-time emergency food benefit is from the U.S. Department of Agriculture Food and Nutrition Service, distributed through the Wisconsin Department of Health and Family Services as a Wisconsin QUEST debit card, used at grocery stores accepting the program.
Food aid could be as much as $426 for a family of three.
While victims in the six counties have until July 8 to apply for food aid, victims in the first seven counties declared disaster areas must apply by today (Friday) for assistance. Those counties include Columbia, Crawford, Milwaukee, Racine, Richland, Sauk and Vernon Counties.
The second group of counties added to the disaster list have a July 1 deadline to apply for food aid. Those counties are Dodge, Fond du Lac, Green, Iowa, Marquette, Washington, Waukesha and Winnebago Counties.
The third group of counties added have a July 3 deadline, including Dane, Grant, Juneau, Kenosha, Ozaukee, Rock and Sheboygan Counties.
