A fond farewell to talented colleagues

The Capital Times  —  4/25/2008 9:12 pm

The faces and stories you see on these pages are part of a rich tapestry of the history of The Capital Times. As we move into a new way of bringing you news, features, information and opinions on the Internet and in two weekly magazines, we will be doing it without the assistance of these 24 people who have added so much to the quality of the daily afternoon newspaper you have been reading in recent years. There will still be many familiar faces and bylines in our new presence, but the reality of these changes is that it will take fewer people to do this than to put out six daily papers a week. Most of those leaving chose to take a voluntary separation package.

Some of these people's work at the paper stretches across 30 and 40 years. Others arrived more recently. They represent every corner of our newsroom and the place will be a quite a bit emptier without them -- not just in a physical sense, but also because of the institutional memories, wit and the wisdom they have brought to producing each day's paper.

So these pages are a tribute to them. We hope you will join us in thanking them for their work and wishing them well in the future.

Pictured opposite: grouped around Kim Sunderlage are (from left) Henry Koshollek, Mark Meadows, Raymond Johnson, Mary Yeater Rathbun, Linda Brazill, David Callender, Ron McCrea, Steve Ray, Doug Moe, Rob Zaleski (in front of Moe), Kevin Lynch, David Sandell, Phil Haslanger, Mary Bergin, Jacob Stockinger, and Rich Rygh. Not able to be present for the photo were Roger Daleiden, Bill Dunn, Brent Engh, Joe Hart, Molly McLean, Sarah Mueller and Shauna Rhone.
