I would like speak up for the people working on State Street. I can certainly understand why people would be upset about this proposal- I love music, I love how it can liven the atmosphere of State Street. However, I do not think that limitations are a completely crazy idea.
I have worked on State Street for 6 years and the street performers that I have encountered have become increasingly intolerable- including a harmonica player who doesn't play songs, only 3 notes over and over again for two hours, and my favorite, the performer who "plays" the bagpipes like she's killing a turkey...
Awesome jam bands are NOT parked outside our doors 4-6 days a week. Someone playing "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" on a recorder is, and has been most of the night.
I'm not saying that street performers should leave State Street, but I think that there should be limitations and some compromise. I have had customers complain, and that is a problem, especially for small, independently owned businesses who can't afford to loose ANY business these days. Thanks.
