State keeps top ACT ranking

indentFor the 10th consecutive year, the state has retained its first-place ranking on the ACT college entrance exam.
indentWith a composite score of 22.2, Wisconsin seniors outdid their peers in the 24 other states where the exam is the predominant admissions test.
indentThe ACT is scored on a scale of 1 to 36. Minnesota was second with 22.1, followed by Iowa (22), Montana (21.7) and Nebraska (21.7).
indentWisconsin's score of 22.2 hasn't changed for three years. The national composite score dropped to 20.8, the first decline in five years.
indentIn 25 states, at least 40 percent or more of graduating seniors took the test at some point during their high school careers. Sixty-eight percent of Wisconsin's graduates took it.
indentIn Madison, 1,113 seniors took the ACT, or 72.1 percent of the graduating class - a record percentage for the district. The district's composite score of 24.4 was up from last year and surpassed the state and national composite scores for the 16th consecutive year.
indentAccording to the American College Testing Program, the test developers, the average Madison test-taker scored higher than four of every five students in the country.
