Doyle takes oath of office today

Jim Doyle becomes Wisconsin's new governor today.

Doyle, the first Democratic governor in 16 years, will be sworn in during a ceremony in the Capitol rotunda beginning at noon.

On Sunday, Doyle attended a pre-inaugural, interfaith breakfast in Milwaukee and a campaign fund-raising dinner in Middleton.

  • Today's inauguration events
  • Madison inaugural breakfast: 8 to 10 a.m. at Monona Terrace. Features entertainment by Wisconsin performers including Kaukauna Jazz Choir. (Reservations required; the deadline has passed.)
  • Inaugural ceremony: Noon to 1 p.m. in the rotunda of the Capitol. The free event is open to the public. It will be broadcast live by Wisconsin Public Television, WHA-TV (Ch. 21), and simulcast on Wisconsin Public Radio, WHA-AM (970) and WHAD-FM (90.7). It also will be carried live on the Doyle inauguration Web site, www.doyleinauguration.com.
  • Welcome reception: 1 to 3 p.m. at the governor's office in the Capitol. The public can meet the governor and first lady Jessica Doyle. Refreshments will be served and musical entertainment provided.
  • Inaugural ball: 8 to 11 p.m. at Monona Terrace. Deadline for purchasing tickets, which cost $25 with any proceeds going to benefit the Boys & Girls Clubs of Wisconsin, has passed.
  • At interfaith breakfast, Doyle promises to work with state residents/B1
