CHICAGO -- Three up and three down from the Brewers' 8-2 win over the Cubs Wednesday afternoon at Wrigley Field:
THREE UP ...
Run, Corey, run
The Brewers manufactured a run without a hit in the sixth inning when Corey Hart led off with a walk, stole second and third and scored when Cubs catcher Geovany Soto threw the ball into center field trying to nab Jason Kendall at second on his steal attempt.
A perfect at-bat
Kendall's at-bat in the eighth was a work of art. With Joe Dillon on second after a double, Kendall inside-outed an inside pitch to the right side of the infield to move Dillon to third. Kendall beat it out for a single when pitcher Carmen Pignatiello was late covering first.
Keeping it interesting
After wiggling out of a seventh inning jam Monday, reliever Salomon Torres created his own jam in the seventh by allowing back-to-back singles before retiring Ryan Theriot on a fly ball and Alfonso Soriano on a swinging strikeout.
... THREE DOWN
Put the ball in play
The Brewers were looking to add to their 5-1 lead in the seventh when Gabe Kapler, Prince Fielder and Ryan Braun singled to load the bases with no outs. But Bill Hall and Hart looked atrocious striking out and J.J. Hardy flied to left to end the threat.
Be careful
Cubs left-hander Ted Lilly grooved a first-pitch fastball to Rickie Weeks to open the game and Weeks planted it on Waveland Avenue for the Brewers' first home run of the season.
Taking aim
Considering the circumstances, none of the hit batsmen were intentional. But it's getting old for Weeks and Fielder. Weeks was hit twice in the opener, Fielder twice in Wednesday's game. The Brewers have scored in every inning with a hit batter.
