CHICAGO -- Three up and three down from the Brewers' 6-3 loss to the Cubs Thursday at Wrigley Field:
THREE UP ...
Bonecrusher Weeks
Rickie Weeks literally ran through Cubs catcher Geovany Soto to score in the first inning on Prince Fielder's sacrifice fly, a play in which Soto found himself in the baseline trying to field right fielder Kosuke Fukudome's throw. It was the third straight game Weeks has scored this season and 16th overall going back to last season, tying a club record set by Paul Molitor in 1987.
Fielder breaks through
Fielder knocked in his first two runs of the season. In addition to the sacrifice fly in the first, he beats the Cubs' shift with an eighth-inning single that also scored Weeks.
Turnbow settles in
You could almost hear the boos from Brewerdom when reliever Derrick Turnbow opened his first appearance of the season in the eighth inning by hitting Felix Pie on an 0-2 pitch and walking pinch-hitter Daryle Ward. But Turnbow escaped for a scoreless inning by retiring the top of the Cubs' lineup.
... THREE DOWN
A wild one
Starter Dave Bush struggled to find the strike zone for most of his 5 1/3 innings, walking five and throwing almost as many balls (49) as he did strikes (56). Bush allowed 12 baserunners. He faced 28 hitters.
All turned around
New left fielder Ryan Braun failed to make his first tough play of the season when he had the look of a struggling cornerback chasing Fukudome's slicing liner in the second inning. The hit went for a double in the Cubs' two-run second..
Out of control
When the series was over, seven hitters — four Brewers and three Cubs — had been plunked by pitches. It's bad enough to get hit when the weather is nice. It's worse when it's as cold has it has been.
