Brewers: Three up, three down
By VIC FEUERHERD

THREE UP ...

Some sort of stuff
Giants RF Randy Winn will remember his first at-bat against Manny Parra. The Brewers' rookie left-hander threw fastballs at 97 and 94 mph for strikes in the first inning, then struck him out with an 82 mph curve. That's nasty.

That move worked?
Milwaukee's David Riske pulled the tired, but often used fake-to-third, fake-to-first pickoff move in the sixth inning and guess what? It worked! Brian Bocock took off to second on Riske's move to third. Riske spun to second and threw to Counsell, whose throw to 1B Prince Fielder nabbed Bocock.

Another good move
While Jason Kendall rightfully is drawing attention as an excellent offseason acquisition, don't forget the flyer the Brewers took on OF Gabe Kapler — a minor league manager for the Red Sox last year. Kapler, who had three singles Friday, hit his first career pinch-hit home run in the seventh to give the Brewers a 5-3 lead.

... THREE DOWN

Who made the error?

No one expected the Brewers to go errorless for the season, but you might be surprised who committed the first miscue of the year. The dubious honor went to SS Craig Counsell, whose high throw to first wound up in the Brewers' dugout in the second. Counsell made just two errors in 278 chances last season.

Have to turn it
The Brewers looked ready to escape unscathed in the seventh when pinch-hitter Dave Roberts hit a tailor-made, double-play ball to Counsell. But 2B Rickie Weeks didn't get his feet set and bounced his throw to Fielder, who couldn't come up with the ball. It allowed the Giants to cut the Brewers' lead to 4-3.

Just not smart
Two fans hurdled the tarp down the left-field line and sprinted across the outfield before being met rather rudely by Miller Park security. One of the interlopers was snagged by two guards who combined on a tackle worthy of NFL linebackers. His partner was seen smiling as the two were escorted out the right-field gate. The one who was tackled was not smiling. Both will be a few dollars lighter in the wallet courtesy of the Milwaukee County courts.
