MILWAUKEE -- Tony Gwynn is on the field as I type, engaged in an early batting practice session with teammates Gabe Gross, Joe Dillon, Ryan Bruan, J.J. Hardy and Gabe Kapler.
That's encouraging news for Gwynn, who missed the three-game series with the San Francisco Giants because of a hamstring problem suffered in Chicago last week.
Still, Gwynn was not in manager Ned Yost's starting lineup for tonight's game with the Cincinnati Reds, who are featuring highly touted right-handed rookie, Johnny Cueto, on the mound. Cueto, 1-0 with a 1.29 ERA, goes against Brewers right-hander Jeff Suppan (1-0, 2.86).
