MILWAUKEE -- Three up and three down from the Brewers' 5-4 win over the Phillies Wednesday night at Miller Park:
THREE UP ...
Turning it up
Meet the new Derrick Turnbow, just like the old Derrick Turnbow. He closed out the win for his first save in exactly a year. He struck out two in the ninth inning.
A touch of class
You certainly could debate if Geoff Jenkins was the "great player'' he once told me he was, but there never was any doubt about his work ethic. The Miller Park crowd showed its appreciation by giving the former Brewers outfielder two standing ovations. A tip of the hat to the Brewers' organization, too, for showing highlights of Jenkins' 10-year career here.
Nice to see
The home folks finally got to see what Prince Fielder does best — hit home runs. His two-run blast in the first and two-run shot in the eighth were his first homers at home.
... THREE DOWN
It pays to stay ahead
Dave Bush found that out in the fifth when he fell behind 3-1 to Greg Dobbs and then surrendered a two-run homer that tied it at 3. Bush did it again in the sixth, giving up a leadoff home run to Pat Burrell.
Do your homework
The crowd booed manager Ned Yost's decision to send Bush to the plate with two out and one on in the sixth and the Brewers trailing 4-3. Normally, the fans would be right. But Yost, strapped by an overworked bullpen, was just trying to milk another inning out of Bush.
Have a seat
Brewers third baseman Bill Hall might need a seat. Hall was hitless in four at-bats and is 0-for-14 in the first three games of the homestand.
