MILWAUKEE -- Three up and three down from the Brewers' 3-1 loss to the Phillies Thursday at Miller Park:
THREE UP ...
Perfectly turned
Brewers starter Jeff Suppan allowed the Phillies' leadoff hitter to reach in each of the first three innings but minimized the damage by throwing a double-play ball each time.
Deserving a decision
All Suppan got out of his stellar outing was a lower ERA. He started at 4.13 and finished at 3.48 after allowing a run in seven innings.
The signs are there
Ryan Braun looks to be regaining the stroke that made him one of the most dangerous hitters in the NL last year. He had three hits in four at-bats, including a run-scoring single in the third.
... THREE DOWN
A mortal sin
It's etched in stone: Don't make the first out of an inning at third base. But that's what Corey Hart did in the fourth inning. Hart's double rolled to the wall but left-fielder Pat Burrell hustled his relay to shortstop Eric Bruntlett, whose throw to third nailed Hart. Bill Hall followed with a single that would have scored Hart from second.
Another mortal sin
Phillies starter Jamie Moyer picked off Rickie Weeks in the first and Hall in the fourth with moves that caught both runners heading to second on stolen-base attempts.
The numbers lie
The Brewers came into the game leading the NL in hitting with runners in scoring position (57-for-188. .303). They were 2-for-6 Thursday, but the second hit, J.J. Hardy's hard single to left in the seventh, forced Hall to stop at third after his leadoff double.
