Brewers: Three up, three down
By VIC FEUERHERD 608-252-6175
MILWAUKEE - Some highlights, and low points, from the Brewers' 6-4 loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers on Wednesday night at Miller Park.
THREE UP ...
It worked
Manager Ned Yost's plan to have the pitcher bat eighth worked again. In the second inning, Manny Parra hit Derek Lowe's first pitch into right for a two-run single.
He can throw
Jason Kendall was 1-for-2 trying to throw out Juan Pierre, although he had no chance on the second one. He has thrown out 11 of 28, an outstanding 39.3 percent cutdown rate.
Making them pay
Lowe intentionally walked Prince Fielder in the sixth to get to Corey Hart, who came in tied for second in the National League with a .406 average with runners in scoring position. Hart singled to score J.J. Hardy and make it 4-1.
THREE DOWN ...
All or nothing
Bill Hall is in feast-or-famine mode. He hit homers in the previous two games but struck out in his first three at-bats Wednesday. That gave him 43, or once every 3.4 times up.
Didn't you say?
Yost said closer Eric Gagne was good to go, but he went with Guillermo Mota. Big mistake Mota blew his first save.
Wilting leather
Fielder bobbled a two-out grounder by Mark Sweeney in the seventh, allowing a run to score. It was his fourth error of the season, third in the NL among first baseman behind Carlos Delgado and Derrek Lee.
