Brewers: Braun, Sheets on All-Star team; Hart awaits Final Vote
By VIC FEUERHERD

Ryan Braun was voted to the National League All-Star team after all. In fact, he made it in very impressive style.

The Milwaukee Brewers' left fielder, left off the starting eight Saturday night in a report in the New York Post, finished with the second-highest number of votes in the NL and third overall to garner his first fan vote selection to play in the midsummer classic July 15 at Yankee Stadium.

Braun, the subject of an intense public relations push by the Brewers over the last week, finished with 3,835,840 votes, second only to Philadelphia second baseman Chase Utley (3,889,602) in the NL and New York Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez (3,934,518). Rodriguez led all vote-getters.

Braun, who also was first in the players' ballots for NL outfielders, will be joined by pitcher Ben Sheets, who will be making his fourth all-star appearance. Sheets was voted onto the squad in a vote by players.

The Brewers also have a chance at gaining a third player in right fielder Corey Hart, who is part of the four-day Internet ballot to select the 32nd and final player on the NL squad. Hart is joined on the computer generated vote by fellow outfielders Pat Burrell (Philadelphia), Carlos Lee (Houston) and Aaron Rowand (San Francisco), plus New York Mets third baseman David Wright.

Hart is the third Brewer to make it to what Major League Baseball bills as the Final Vote. Former Brewers left fielder Geoff Jenkins was the winner of the extra vote in 2003. Pitcher Chris Capuano came up short on the ballot in 2006 but was later added to squad as an injury replacement.
