The New York Mets and Philadelphia Phillies won coin flips earlier this month with the Milwaukee Brewers and would host a tiebreaker for the NL wild card on Monday if an extra game is needed to decide a postseason berth.
But what if all three teams are tied?
Entering play Thursday, the Mets and Brewers were both at 87-71. But New York was just 1½ games behind idle Philadelphia in the NL East.
If the three teams end up with the same record, the Phillies would host the Mets on Monday to determine the division champion.
The loser of that game would then host the Brewers on Tuesday to decide the wild card, with the playoffs starting on Wednesday.
