Brewers: Defense wins championships, so ...
By ANDY BAGGOT
... If I were Brewers manager Dale Sveum, I'd play Craig Counsell at third base instead of Bill Hall and Ray Durham at second instead of Rickie Weeks.

I'm all for stats and tendencies, but when it comes to the pressure of the postseason, I believe Counsell and Durham are more sure-handed options defensively.

Of the two, I'm most ambivalent about second base. Weeks has better range and a better arm than Durham, but as we saw Wednesday against the Phillies when Weeks failed to make a routine play, one lapse can bury you.

You already have a defensive void at first base with Prince Fielder, so I believe Sveum needs to fortify the infield as much as possible. That means sticking with two playoff tested veterans instead of a strict left-right platoon.
