As Brewers general manager Doug Melvin prepares to make a decision on his manager for next season and beyond -- keep Dale Sveum, promote Frank Kremblas from Class AAA Nashville, or go in another direction -- one thing appears certain:
Robin Yount will not be involved with the staff on a full-time basis in 2009.
There is a school of thought that Milwaukee owner Mark Attanasio wants a "name'' manager and Yount would fit that bill.
But Yount told me over the weekend that he's having too much fun doing other things in his life to manage in the majors.
He prefaced that thought by saying if he ever wanted to manage, the only place he would want to do it is with the Brewers.
After Ned Yost was fired Sept. 15, Yount came to Milwaukee to work as Sveum's bench coach.
Yount and Sveum are best friends, but Yount said he wouldn't return as a full-time coach in 2009 for the same reason he wouldn't want to manage.
"There are too many other things I'd rather do,'' Yount said.
Jon Heyman of Sports Illustrated reported Monday that his sources tell him Attanasio wants to talk with former Brewers great Paul Molitor about coming to Milwaukee, but probably not as a manager.
Molitor currently works as a special assistant in the front office of the Minnesota Twins.
