Well, the Northwoods League season is a week old and the Madison Mallards sit at 5-2 after a 2-1 win over the Green Bay Bullfrogs up north.

The only team ahead of the Mallards in the NWL Southern Division is the Wisconsin Woodchucks (4-1). Mankato is 5-1 in the North.

Pitcher of the week: Matt Jansen — 1-0; did not allow a run on six hits in 13 innings; 10 strikeouts versus two walks.

Hitter of the week: Joe De Pinto — batted .385 with five RBIs.
