Mallards blog: Omaha-bound

Three Madison Mallards will be competing in the College World Series, which begins Saturday in Omaha, Neb.

Infielder Alan Ahmady and outfielder Trent Soares play for Fresno State, while right-hander Nolan Cain pitches for LSU.

Ahmady is the Bulldogs' top hitter, batting .384 with 12 home runs and 84 RBIs in 71 games (263 at-bats), while Soares is hitting .194 in 56 games (103 at-bats).

Cain is 0-0 with a 2.37 earned run average in 19 appearances.

Three former Mallards also will be playing at the CWS. Stanford has first baseman Randy Molina and pitcher Tom Stilson, while Georgia has pitcher Stephen Dodson.
