Mallards blog: De Pinto, others gone
By TOM ZIEMER
No official announcement from the Madison Mallards, but second baseman Joe De Pinto is no longer on the team's roster.
De Pinto's second 10-day contract was scheduled to expire Tuesday, though the Mallards were debating whether to keep him and release outfielder Evan LeBlanc, who had hand surgery and will be out until at least early July.
De Pinto (Southern California) and pitchers Kyle Barry (Madison Area Technical College) and Bryan Earley (Lincoln Trail College) — all 10-day contract players — have been removed from the Mallards' roster.
De Pinto hit .250 with eight runs batted in in 18 games with Madison. Barry was 3-0 with a 3.22 earned run average in five games, while Earley was 1-1 with a 0.57 ERA in three games.
LeBlanc is still on the roster, so the Mallards must have decided having the Santa Clara outfielder, a 23rd-round pick by the New York Mets in June's Major League Baseball draft, for the last month-and-a-half or so of the season was worth it.
