Mallards blog: Week in review
By TOM ZIEMER
Has it already been a week?
The Madison Mallards played seven more home games during this monstrous homestand, and went 4-3. At 12-8 overall, they're five games back of the first-place Wisconsin (resisting the urge to call them Wausau, even though that's what they should be named) Woodchucks and a game back of second-place La Crosse.
The Mallards host Duluth tonight, and then Wisconsin for a two-game series, so they'll have a chance to carve away at that lead.
On to my weekly awards ...
Hitter of the week: Luke Stewart — It wasn't a real outstanding seven games for any Mallard at the plate, but Stewart had two homers and seven RBIs. Pretty good considering he had only four hits in 23 at-bats (.170).
Pitcher of the week: Kyle Barry — His final start for the Mallards (he was on a 10-day contract) was a solid one. The Madison Area Technical College player allowed one earned run and four hits in six innings to beat the Eau Claire Express.
