Thursday was a busy day for the Madison Mallards.

They booked themselves a spot in the Northwoods League playoffs thanks to a doubleheader sweep of the Battle Creek Bombers.

And the Mallards released outfielder Evan LeBlanc and pitcher Bryan Hamilton and signed pitchers Kyle Rutter and Brant Combs.

The Mallards were hoping to keep LeBlanc on their roster until he recovered from hand surgery, but he apparently opted to sign with the New York Mets, who drafted him in the 23rd round of last month's MLB draft.

Hamilton needs to have elbow surgery.
