Packers: Speculating on Favre's next team -- the Carolina Panthers? Really?
GREEN BAY -- Reggie White once did it, could Brett Favre do the same?
With rumors swirling about Favre's "itch" to come out of retirement and play football again, and with league sources saying the Green Bay Packers weren't particularly receptive to the idea of Favre's return when the retired-for-now quarterback contacted them a few weeks ago, the popular question Thursday has been where Favre might end up playing, if not Green Bay.
ProFootballTalk.com has one possibility: The Carolina Panthers, based on what they hear Favre's agent, James "Bus" Cook, has been saying privately.
White, who retired from the Packers following the 1998 season, came back in 2000 with the Panthers before retiring for good.
Other popular guesstinations for Favre? How about Tampa Bay (coached by ex-Packers assistant Jon Gruden, who collects QBs and has an unhappy Jeff Garcia as his starter) or Washington (owned by make-a-splash owner Daniel Snyder)? Both teams were playoff teams last year and could use Favre to put them over the top.
