Favre Watch: If shoulder's sound, Favre's a Viking, ESPN reports

GREEN BAY -- Another day, another twist in the continuing drama of "As Brett Favre Turns."

One day after Yahoo! Sports reported -- and an NFL source close to the Minnesota Vikings' brain trust confirmed -- that the legendary quarterback had informed coach Brad Childress in a telephone call that he was staying retired, ESPN reported Friday afternoon that Favre has sent x-rays of his right (throwing) shoulder to the Vikings.

If the scans show no major structural damage in the wake of Favre's torn biceps tendon, Favre will come out of retirement after all and join the Green Bay Packers' bitter rivals, the network reported.

Citing "a source close to the situation," ESPN's Jeremy Schaap reported that if the Vikings' medical staff determines that Favre "needs anything less than `major' surgery on his shoulder, Favre will un-retire to play for the Vikings. If "major" surgery is necessary, Favre will remain retired, the source said.
