GREEN BAY -- With the 30th pick in the 2008 NFL Draft, the Green Bay Packers select ...
No one.
The Packers have dealt their pick to the New York Jets, moving back six spots to No. 36 overall (the fifth pick of the second round) and also getting the Jets' fourth-round pick, No. 113 overall.
Here's the breakdown of the trade:
The PACKERS get:
No. 36, a second-round pick
No. 113, a fourth-round pick
The JETS get:
No. 30 overall
With the 30th pick, the Jets took Purdue tight end Dustin Keller.
Interestingly, the Jets already added one tight end this offseason: Ex-Packers first-round pick Bubba Franks, who was released by Green Bay earlier this offseason and signed with New York.
We'll have to wait for GM Ted Thompson to come down and tell us more about the trade, but after seeing Arizona cornerback Antoine Cason go 27th to the San Diego Chargers, and with no wide receivers or tight ends having been taken, the Packers clearly saw an opportunity to pick up an extra and still get a player of similar value six picks later.
Perhaps, the Packers will take another tight end -- they currently have only starter Donald Lee and oft-injured Tory Humphrey on the roster at the position -- with the 36th pick. Stay tuned.
