NFL Draft: Packers take Kansas State WR Jordy Nelson with 36th overall pick
GREEN BAY -- After trading back from their first-round perch (No. 30), the Green Bay Packers selected Kansas State wide receiver Jordy Nelson with the 36th overall pick.
Nelson, the third wide receiver taken after none went in the first round, is 6-foot-2 5/8, 217 pounds and ran a 4.54 40-yard dash.
A former high-school quarterback, he redshirted as a freshman in 2003 and spent the 2004 season as a defensive back before moving to wide receiver in 2005 and caught 45 passes for 669 yards and eight TDs while starting all 11 games that year.
A knee injury limited him in '06 to nine starts, and he caught just 39 passes for 547 yards and one TD. BUt last year, he bounced back with a monster year, catching an eye-popping 122 passes for 1,606 yards and 11 TDs, ranking him second in the nation in receptions and receiving yardage.
Nelson set 11 receiving records at KSU, including most catches in a game (15 against Missouri last year) and yards in a game (214 against Iowa State).
The Packers pick again at No. 56, and we're waiting to see if GM Ted Thompson to come down and talk about the pick.
