Packers: Team adds 13 undrafted free agents, cut Babb, Bell and Dougherty
GREEN BAY -- While a number of other teams have announced their list of undrafted free-agent signees, the Packers have yet to do so and tend to wait until all contracts are finalized, which usually isn't until just before the annual post-draft rookie orientation camp opens.
In the meantime, here's a look at the players who've agreed to terms with the club, based on various sources (agents, NFL scouts, other media outlets, players' schools):
Mississippi College WR Jake Allen
Portland State C Brennen Carvalho
Wisconsin P Ken DeBauche
Nebraska S Tierre Green
Murray State WR Rod Harper
Maryland TE Joey Haynos
Notre Dame LS J.J. Jansen
Connecticut LB Danny Lansanah
Georgia RB Kregg Lumpkin
North Carolina LB Durell Mapp
Northwest Missouri State TE Mike Peterson
Fresno State LB Marcus Riley
Syracuse, WR Taj Smith
UW-Whitewater running back Justin Beaver, as reported Sunday night, will be one of a large number of players participating on a tryout basis. Without any veterans at this weekend's rookie orientation camp, it makes sense that the Packers are bringing in so many tryout players to practice with.
Meanwhile, having added two quarterbacks in the draft -- second-rounder Brian Brohm and seventh-rounder Matt Flynn -- the Packers have released Jerry Babb and Dalton Bell, who'd been participating in the team's quarterback school along with starter Aaron Rodgers. Presumably, the Packers made the move to allow Brohm and Flynn to get more work this weekend.
The Packers also released punter Ryan Dougherty, who was with them in camp briefly last year, after signing DeBauche.
